Taking Rambo Down(ton). Weekend Box Office September 20-22, 2019

Maggie Smith shows Pitt and Stallone how they do things on the Abbey.

Fans of Downton Abbey got their wish this weekend with the long awaited continuation of the series on the big screen. They supported it in a big way blowing up expectations with $31 million domestically and $30.8 million overseas for a global total of $61.8 million. Not bad for a show that has been off television for 4 years.

The other 2 new releases had to settle for the scraps like servants of the Crawley family. Brad Pitt's sci-fi epic Ad Astra came in second with $19.2 million and Sylvester Stallone's last tale of Rambo was right on its heels with $19 million. This will probably be a bigger win for Rambo since the budget for the movie was around $50 million and Ad Astra was made for about double. This also gives Stallone some good vibes that fans still want to see him in his old roles. There have been talks of a sequel to 1986's Cobra.

It: Chapter 2 and Hustlers held well making $17.2 million and $17 million respectively. Hustlers has made $62 million in two weeks from a $20 million budget.

Next week sees the release of the animated movie Abominable and Renee Zelwegger's portrayal of Judy Garland in Judy.
