Steven Spielberg's West Side Story Wraps Production

Steven Spielberg's West Side Story Wraps Production

Jets and Sharks and dancing, oh my.

Steven Spielberg took time away from trying to discredit Netflix movies to wrap production on his film version of West Side Story.

West Side Story was released in 1957 as a Broadway musical inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and follows Tony, the co-founder and former member of the gang known as the Jets and Maria, who is the sister of the leader for the rival gang, the Sharks. Since it is based on Romeo and Juliet you can see where it is going.

The most widely known version of West Side Story is the 1961 movie that starred Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn and Rita Moreno. It was a huge hit and widely considered one of the pinnacle films of Hollywood's post-classical cinema.

The new version stars Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Mike Faist and yes, Rita Moreno

West Side Story releases December 18, 2020.
