Apple Wins Bidding War For A Christmas Carol With Will Ferrell And Ryan Reynolds

Dickens Christmas team, assemble.

Apple beat out Netflix, Warner Bros. and Paramount to secure the rights for a new film version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds. The tech giant is looking to add some more theatrical content to their Apple TV Plus streaming service.

The budget for the movie is already high with Reynolds and Ferrell making over $25 million a piece and writers/directors Sean Anders and John Morris making $10-15 million. The streaming wars have officially begun and it will be a race as to who can pay the most to get new shows and movies. Netflix is the big name now, but with Disney and Apple launching their streaming services in November that won't be the case anymore.

The last big telling of A Christmas Carol was in 2009 when director Robert Zemeckis released his CGI movie starring Jim Carrey. A new version of the tale was only a matter of time so we will see if Buddy the Elf and Blake Lively's husband can make it a memorable one.
