Following his imprisonment for a killing committed in self-defense, Sailor Ripley reconnects with his girlfriend, Lula Fortune. Lula's mother, Marietta, determined to separate them, employs a hitman to eliminate Sailor. However, Sailor encounters a fresh array of challenges when he and his former friend Bobby Peru, who also has intentions against him, attempt to rob a store. As Sailor finds himself incarcerated once more, the young couple seems increasingly distant from the life they desire to build together.
