Synopsis

Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood.

  • michaelmerriman If you read the text closely Dorian is implied to be middle-eastern. Fortunes and Fables is written in Arabic, the women in the library where he faces his first test are wearing hijabs though they're called scarves in the text. He speaks to Zachary in Mandarin and Urdu, which implies an eastern upbringing.
