This was a difficult choice, but in the end, I wanted to add more diversity to the trio of Maura, Calla, and Persephone. Although Persephone is described as Estonian, pale, and blonde, none of these characteristics prevent her from being anything other than white. Rinko Kikuchi hasn't quite broken out into stardom yet but if you see her in Pacific Rim you'll get why I chose her. She has just the right mix of intensity, airiness, and intelligence. I also think it would add greater significance to her mentorship of Adam, if both are played by East Asian actors. Henrietta is a very white place!
