Mags was the victor of the 11th Hunger Games nearly 39 years ago, and becomes Haymitch's mentor when he is chosen as the male tribute of District 12. She puts full faith in the young Haymitch, believing that the boy will win the games. She praises Haymitch when he ultimately wins the Hunger Games, though her moment of celebration is cut short when President Snow enters her room and scolds her for helping train Haymitch to cheat in the games.
