GUN have been hunting down one certain mercenary working for Eggman since day one: Zero the Jackal, along with his team Jackal Squad. Zero has a new assignment from the surprisingly-alive Dr Robotnik of acquiring a powerful gem capable of warping realities and time itself: the Phantom Ruby. GUN sent Shadow and Team Dark to chase the Jackal Squad as they go to pull off the murderous heist. After losing his entire team, and a battle to Shadow, Zero had been mocked and insulted for being weak and not being worth the effort. Description of Zero/Infinte the Jackal:

Zero the Jackal has had a rough life before becoming a mercenary. His father Liam was rude, brutal, basically the bad-father type. What Surge got in physical pain was multiplied in emotional pain. But the thing is, Zero was raised in a family of criminals, so it was generational. When Eggman hired him the first time, he didn't say no. His team is more than a team. They're his actual family. Trois was his bride-to-be when somehow the alarm went off when they were pulling off the Phantom Ruby heist. Zero had lost everyone he held most dear, including her. After losing to Shadow, he volunteered to Eggman's experiment with the very gem he was hired to steal, becoming Infinite.
