Velma's acting career in Springwood has always been troubled, her attempts at acting in the city theater unfounded by disapproving glances. By the time the Springwood slasher began attacking, Velma had just gotten her first job in years thanks to the help of her longtime friend Ethel. When Phineas was arrested, she was unable to testify for her husband. His job was threatened and if he tried to reveal the truth about Krueger he would be arrested for being an accomplice to Phineas. The sheriff insisted that when Rod arrived at the orphanage, the owner would insist that he was never adopted. Velma was a victim of Springwood.
