Synopsis

Harrowing tensions explode in a series of events that could happen anywhere, to anyone, just as they do to John Moore—whose days of freedom run out, who is stripped of his possessions, his courage, and his hopes, one by one, by the ominous presence of an insidious stranger impossible to resist.

Description of Mrs. Hastings:

Doctor Hasting’s posh and younger wife, who looks down on the citizens of Harlowe as backwards and primitive. She is furious she was uprooted from New York society to live in a rural town. She frequently drinks and says vicious insults to the other women of the town. She always appears elegant, to the point of being overdressed. She thinks Perly carries the moon in his pocket. Aged 50-55
