(First appeared in X-Men #64 in 1970 and was created by Roy Thomas and Don Heck). Shiro Yoshida's mother died due to radiation poisoning from the aftermath of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. The exposure to radiation also unlocked Shiro's mutant abilities, which include flight and pyrokinesis. Shiro was raised to hate the United States and attacked them, but the X-Men intervened. Eventually, Sunfire would become an ally and later a member of the X-Men after changing his ways.
