First appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 1973 and was created by Gerry Conway, Ross Andru, and John Romita, Sr. The Punisher is a Vietnam War veteran and former U.S. Marine whose family was killed by the mafia. Miles Warren/Jackal manipulated him into believing that Spider-Man was a criminal, pitting them against each other. As soon as the Punisher learned that he had been manipulated, he turned on the Jackal, but was still on complicated terms with Spider-Man, due to their differing methods.
