When Johnny Storm was a high school student, he, his sister, Dr. Reed Richards, and a pilot named Ben Grimm went to space, where they were exposed to radiation that mutated them, giving him pyrokinetic powers. The four would become the superhero team known as the Fantastic Four, with Johnny under the name Human Torch, in honor of the original Human Torch from World War II.
