Description of Detective John Hartigan (Basin City's detective and one of the few honorable cops.):

Being one of the few good cops on Basin City, Hartigan (even with heart condition) on his last night saves Nancy Callahan from being raped and murdered by Roark Jr and mutilates him, but then Hartigan is framed for the same crime by senator Roark, the molester's father. For 8 years, Hartigan receive letters from Nancy until he receives a human finger instead, and fearing by her safety, he accepts the false charges to leave prison and save her, but it's a trap and they're persecuted by the "yellow bastard" who in fact is Roark Jr who wants revenge. At the end, Hartigan saves Nancy and castrate Jr and kill him. He shoots himself to protect Nancy from the wrath of the Roark's
