Godfrey was sent to Earth to defame the heroes and tarnish their image He took the name G. Gordon Godfrey and became an influential voice on television talk shows He organized a smear campaign against the heroes, which led to the creation of a law banning their activities He hypnotized his enraged human followers and led the forces of Apokolips into Washington He was restrained by a group of assembled heroes He was imprisoned in Belle Reve and later released and returned to Apokolips
