In the 1981 film “On Golden Pond”, Norman Thayer Jr. was portrayed by Henry Fonda in his last appearance in a theatrical film. For his performance, Hank won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, becoming the oldest winner in the history of the category at 76 years of age (his record was beaten by Anthony Hopkins in 2020 for the latter’s performance in “The Father,” at 83 years of age).
