Synopsis

Our world is one of many realms of existence, one of these realms is known as Outworld, a dark and desolate land that is ruled by it's emperor Shao Kahn who has conquered and merged realms with Outworld and has been seeking to do the same to earth for a millenia, to prevent a total invasion from taking place. The beings known as The Elder Gods created the Mortal Kombat tournament, a fighting tournament that occurs every 50 years where the ultimate victor is granted immortality, if Outworld can win 10 consecutive tournaments they will be able invade and take control of Earthrealm without any intervention, as of now Outworld has won 9 tournaments, and the faith of Earthrealm hangs in the balance.

Description of Jin Kang (Liu's Grandfather):

After the mysterious disappearance of Liu Kang's Parents, Jin had taken Liu in and raised him as his own, he would often tell Liu about how his father was a great Shaolin warrior which would inspire Liu Kang to become a Shaolin monk himself.
