Synopsis

Plymouth Colony is thrown into chaos when a man is found murdered, his head discovered but the rest of his body missing. The council, driven by fear and superstition, accuses four girls of practicing witchcraft and forces them into a brutal trial to prove their innocence. As the girls struggle to survive the trials, the town becomes consumed by paranoia, dividing families and neighbors. However, the true murderer is manipulating the situation from the shadows, using the witchcraft accusations to distract everyone from the real crime. While the community tears itself apart, the killer remains free, hidden in plain sight, as the search for justice becomes lost in a web of lies and hysteria.

Description of James Shaw:

Elizabeth’s husband, James carries the scars of religious persecution from Britain, though he keeps his deeper struggles hidden. His past involvement in funding William Laud’s religious acts contradicts Puritan ideals, making him a traitor in the eyes of his own people. When confronted with his secret, he resorts to murder to protect himself, setting off the chain of events that leads to the witch trials.
