The film follows Ebenezer Scrooge (Hugh Jackman), a cold, cynical man who has lost all sense of compassion and warmth. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of his late business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him that he is doomed unless he changes his ways. Marley tells him three spirits will visit before dawn — each showing Scrooge a part of himself he has long forgotten. The first is The Ghost of Christmas Past (Millie Bobby Brown), a youthful and luminous figure who leads Scrooge through memories of his boyhood, his lonely youth, and the love he lost with Belle (Emma Watson). Her visit reveals the pain that hardened his heart. Next comes The Ghost of Christmas Present (Rhys Darby), a lively and comedic yet wise spirit who shows Scrooge the joy, generosity, and laughter happening all around him — including in the humble home of his underpaid clerk, Bob Cratchit (Martin Freeman). Bob’s love for his family, even in poverty, strikes a chord in Scrooge’s soul. Finally, The Ghost of Christmas Future (Sala Baker), a silent and foreboding presence, reveals the darkness that awaits — Scrooge’s lonely death and the grief of Tiny Tim’s passing.
