Forums » Feature Requests » Few small feature requests

Given that this is the forum for it, might as well drop a few smaller feature requests here:

1. A folder system for further organization of roles in fancasts. For example, you could use folders to divide cast from crew, or for fancasts with multiple dubs, you could use the folders to separate roles by dub. This would be especially helpful for fancasts with a lot of roles that are a nightmare to sift through.
2. Nonbinary gender options for actor profiles so we can have something to use for nonbinary talent, as currently, the only options are to leave it blank or misgender them.
3. A collections/series system for fancasts where you can add your fancasts to a specific collection. That way, if a set of fancasts are part of a unified series, you can easily find them in one place.
4. An option to choose whether actor pictures or role images are displayed on fancast roles. That way, we can cut down on the amount of people spamming pictures of fictional characters to actor galleries they don't belong in, and people can get their fictional character photos showcased.
5. Update the confirmation system so that multiple suggestions can be confirmed to a single role for instances of actors getting recast midway through production or multiple people working on a single role, perhaps with some limitations to combat spammers or trolls making fake confirmations or using it to spam their favorite actors.

1. That would make things easier to do here.
2. This is long overdue and I am surprised that the people in charge of the site haven't done added this yet.
3. This is another helpful idea to help us find what we are looking for (ex: the various face claim stories, cinematic universes, etc.)
4. I would love this and also having some of us veterans (at least 18 months or more, good standings, and who are at least 16 years or older.) of the site be in charge of preventing this from being abused would also be helpful too.
5. This would be very helpful for those castings that have had been recast or even are played by multiple people (ex: younger/older versions of characters, the recasting of a character midway through the film that turns the character into the is a Time Lord from Doctor Who meme, etc.)
Pretty much my thoughts. Granted, I'm not really sure how 4 would be abused, since what I was thinking is that it would be a setting for individual fancasts. Like, for example, say you make a movie fancast, and you go into the settings. You could see something along the lines of "should roles display actor images or role images?" and you can choose whether you'd want the actors' pictures to display, or if it would display the original role image instead, even if casting suggestions are made on it. I could probably whip out a graphic real quick explaining what I'm envisioning if that would help!
Additional feature thoughts:

1. A Mute function for when you don't really wanna block someone but just don't want them showing up in your notifs. I've had instances of stuff getting spam-upvoted because an old fancast I contributed to some time ago got popular again, and someone decided to spam-vote on everything suggested there. If it's one or two things I wouldn't mind, but having my notifs flooded by several pages of "x person liked your suggestion!" gets a little annoying, especially when it makes it hard to find the stuff I actually want to see.
1 1/2. As an alternative to the above, maybe a way to filter out notifications by type? (I.e: votes, casting suggestions, comments/replies, pms, etc) so that way we can pick and choose what we want to see. That might help curb the issue too.
2. A category specifically for locations/countries as a whole. I've been adding filming locations to one of my fancasts lately and this honestly feels like a really glaring oversight to me?

Hard agree on this. My notification is flooded with multiple spam-tags from other users (those that i know and those that i don't even interacted with) and i don't wanna accidentally block users who didn't do anything wrong.
God, same boat. I get spam-tagged by people I've basically never interacted with a lot, to the point where I had to put a disclaimer on my profile to the effect of "please don't spam tag me in things unless I know you/have interacted with you a lot, it floods my notifs" though it doesn't happen as often anymore thankfully. Again, if it was coming from someone I knew and interacted with a lot or if it was just one or two things that might be one thing, but getting multiple spam tags on random fancasts every day from total randos gets grating.

Speaking of blocks, it would also be nice if they had a confirmation thing along of the lines of "are you sure you want to block (user)?" when you hit the block button, just because it's very easy to misclick (especially on mobile) and since there's hardly a difference between blocking and unblocking, it's very easy to accidentally block someone and not realize. It would just be nice because I keep worrying that I'll block someone by accident when checking their profile on mobile and not realize lol.

I agree on both ideas here.

I like this idea a lot on the block system too and would be helpful for those who accidently may have blocked user or are feuding with them.
Pretty much, plus most-all places generally ask beforehand if you want to block someone so it would get the site up to standard.

I like this idea, it would help with those who accidently click that button when they are trying to PM someone or have some second thoughts about blocking a user on here.
Pretty much my thoughts.

On another note: thought about this while adding roles - it would be nice if we could have something to automatically mark submitted roles as crew roles instead of having to go into every individual role's settings and mark them ourselves, would definitely save time. It would also be nice to have a way to unmark crew roles and turn them back into regular roles for times when you accidentally hit the crew role box and don't realize until it's too late.
Actor search function could desperately use some improvements, since right now it can be ridiculously hard to find things unless you use advanced search. It would be nice to be able to just. Enter a term and hit search instead of having to scroll through the whole list, and the integration of search parameters would be helpful as well (I.e. putting quotes around something to make it clear that you're looking for the exact word, or putting a dash before something to show that you don't want that showing up in search results.)

Also, an undo button for votes that allow us to undo any (up/down)votes we've done, just for when you accidentally hit something you didn't mean to. If there's concerns about it being abused, maybe it would only be active for a short window of time after initially voting?

I can get behind both suggestions (even though I am more open to having the undo for votes being available at anytime but your idea is something I can get instantly behind.) As I believe since the launch of the site eight years come in May, the mods/admins have left these functions without any updates.
Yeah, to be honest I'd prefer it to be available anytime as well, but since I'm sure there's SOME possibility for an undo feature to be abused, I might as well offer some "insurance", so to speak, against possible abuse.

So MyCast staff put out a survey today asking what people want out of a site revamp, so I went ahead and dumped as much as I could from this here. Also, and I might add this as a reply to their threads later, but: I honestly don't think their idea (mentioned in the survey) of adding AI features to the site would be a good idea at all. Even ignoring the very controversial nature of AI stuff (which I am not delving into atm because I am too tried to sit down and gather all my thoughts together), the AI features they're suggesting would likely cause more problems than they solve.

There's a good chance that any casting suggestions by AI would overly favor absurdly popular actors and lead to them getting spammed even more than they already are due to feedback loops, and AI generated images are rarely, if ever, accurate, not to mention the issue of spamming AI images in talent pages. There is already an issue with regular users spamming them without on-site features and flooding actor image galleries with AI-generated pictures that don't even look like the person half the time (or even worse, making fake actor pages for people who don't exist using AI-generated images). Could you imagine how much more unruly that would get if there was an on-site tool to do so? Especially if the on-site tool would circumvent image reporting, because then staff wouldn't be able to do anything about it. It would much better to just focus on the stuff people actually want instead of chasing a trend with a bubble that's already starting to burst.
