Todd Phillips' Joker is receiving critical praise from the early previews with many saying Joaquin Phoenix should receive an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Talk of a Best Picture nomination is being bandied about also. The trailer released a few months ago showed that the film looked to be a dark dive into one possible way the Joker could have come into being and now the rating for the film confirms that.
The film has been rated R for "Strong Bloody Violence, Disturbing Behavior, Language and Brief Sexual Images" or basically all you would expect from a Joker film. The early previews have talked about how it is a violent, tense film. There is no telling how much of a sympathetic character Phillips will make Arthur Fleck, but once his transformation happens it seems all bets are off.
Joker releases October 4th.
